It’s the news that everyone’s been waiting for – we’re going to have a Royal wedding and a proper one at that! Prince William has finally proposed to his long term girlfriend Kate Middleton and they’ll be tieing the knot in the summer of next year. Hurrah! We could all do with a romantic story when we’re in the depths of a cold and dark winter.
Wills has been dating Kate since they were students together at St Andrews University and apart from a brief split (possibly concucted to throw the world’s press off the scent) they have been everyone’s favourite Royal couple for many years.
The Queen has expressed her ‘delight’ at the news, despite rumours that she doesn’t approve of Kate’s heritage and thought she was just a bit of riff-raff. Her mother was nothing but a flight attendant you know!
Her majesty isn’t the only one to be moved by the announcement. Apparently David Cameron and his cabinet were ‘thumping the table’ in excitement, and who can blame them – It’s exactly the sort of thing the economy needs. That or a world cup victory and with our team, thank God for Wills eh? Now doubt they’ll also be grateful for some distraction from their far from uncontroversial polices too. Cinics? Us? Never!
Whether you agree with the Royals or not this is a wonderful bit of news for a young couple obviously in love but us Older, Free & Singlers can’t help but worry about the future King of England’s wife to be. No doubt she’ll be attending evening classed in how to handle the media, if she isn’t already, but sadly you can’t help thinking of the terrible impact being part of Britain’s no. 1 family had on William’s mother. But with a lot of luck and fair bit of judgement Kate should be able to avoid a similar life.
Of course, everyone and every situation is different and perhaps the belated adulation Princess Diana recieved will only cause to strengthen the affection the nation has to her daughter-in-law.
There is no doubt that Diana will be a big feature in the build up to the big day and during the occasion itself. It’s been said that William proposed with his mother’s engagement ring, not only that they’ll be getting hitched 30 years on from when his parents did.
Here at Older,Free & Single we salute the newly engaged couple and wish them all the best in the future. But wait, If you fancy bagging yourself your very own Prince or Queen to be then what are you waiting for? Join today find someone who thinks you’re amazing!
